A beautifully renovated distillery now stands out in the historic downtown of Louisville, Kentucky. To make the revitalized Angel’s Envy Distillery an enjoyable stop along the popular Kentucky Bourbon Trail®, architects from Joseph & Joseph focused on keeping the old structural beauty intact, while drawing more light into the interior. To marry these goals in areas with strict fire-rated criteria, the design team selected Technical Glass Product’s (TGP) Fireframes® Heat Barrier Series frames with 60-minute Pilkington Pyrostop® fire-rated glass. The result is an extensive fire-rated glass wall that visually connects the fermentation room with the production line in the distillery. The fire-rated frames’ narrow steel profiles and unique radius capabilities also allow it to maintain the existing aesthetic. “The assembly was designed to not only bring the building up to code, but also to create a dramatic wall with a large glass area,” said Jeff Spielberg, vice president of Kentucky Mirror + Plate Glass, the glazier on the project. “The glass on the interior feature really makes the space.”
