In the summer of 2015, Dodge City Public Schools District successfully passed an $85.6 million bond issue to upgrade the district facilities. Renovations included updates to Central Elementary School, with the goal of raising the original 1927 school to modern fire and life safety standards while still maintaining its beautiful, historic brick-and-glass look. As part of these upgrades, clear FireLite® Plus fire-rated glass ceramic from Technical Glass Products now safeguards select areas along the perimeter of the school requiring fire protection. In these locations, the transparent fire-rated glass allows daylight to fill stairwells, classrooms and libraries while ensuring students and staff can safely exit the building and pass through the exterior courtyard during a fire event. Further supplementing the existing design intent, the glass emulates the appearance of ordinary window glass, making it nearly indecipherable that these spaces have fire-rated glass.
