Where Can I Use Fire-Rated Glazing?

What is a fire-rated glass floor system?

Fire-rated glass floor systems, like Technical Glass Products’ (TGP) Fireframes ClearFloor® System, are horizontal barriers that effectively prevent the spread of fire and smoke as well as radiant and conductive heat between building levels. These fire-resistant floor systems can be rated for up to 120 minutes and are available in various color and texture options—ranging from transparent to nearly opaque. Regardless of their color or texture, fire-rated glass floors are available with impact-resistance, non-slip walking surfaces and the capacity to support loads of up to 150 pounds per square foot (psf).

In many applications, fire-resistant floor systems help reclaim unusable daylighting in areas that also require horizontal fire barriers by code. As a result, they have been used as flooring systems and walkable skylights in public spaces, university buildings and multifamily residences.
